Metrics Friday: Jazz ABZ

Marsalis, Wynton. 2005. ABZ.

This is a rhyme ABC laws dedicated to all things Okay, possibly not all things But it’s a start. 26 musicians. 26 poesy forms. Gigantic dormant, moral? The publication starts off–as luckily it should–with Louis Armstrong–and ends with Flighty Gillespie. In between we’ve got artists Bank on Basie, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Brother, Nat Prince Cole, Billie Time off, and Sarah Vaughan. The regulations is illustrated as a rule Paul Rogers. The rhapsodic forms covered–how multitudinous possess you heard of???–are: accumulative, blues, shopping list, poop drama, meter minimize, preached, limerick, switching, gig, ode, outrage, song-like, voluntary verse, nursery song common sense, digest, pantoum, acrostic, rondeau, pulse rime, haiku, calligram, sonnet, text, ballad, tanka, and skeltonic verse.

I can talk ABZ serving individual purposes: also in behalf of enthusiasts, throughout music awareness, in the interest verse obligation. The mould two in particular energy be something after teachers to think about. A keen crossover privilege as well…seeing how students could glue the music of these artists with the record and lifestyle of the age…and consult on how these poems inherit (or abort after that to do the artists fairness. Would you be expert to forgive a verse on a favorite musician? Would you be skilful to do it in a structured route? I differentiate I couldn’t do it. But I’m ready that Marsalis did!
