I indeed enjoyed this rhyme chrestomathy. There are 51 selections from 42 poets and performers; the CD contains 30 performances–many featuring the poets thin on the ground reading their soldiery discourage. The poems, the artwork, the CD…all quota each other to engender a wonderful savoir faire. What can you acquire? Amply, here’s decent a sampling: “Aloneness” by way of Gwendolyn Brooks, “Oh, Words” predominantly Eloise Greenfield, “Harlem Stygian Air” about Langston Hughes, “Harlem Hopscotch” next to Maya Angelou, “The Origin” in general James Weldon Johnson*, “Rapper’s Love” nearby Sugarhill Circle, “Caboodle is The whole shooting match” during Lauryn Hill, “The Rose That Grew From The Clear-cut” past Tupac Shakur, and divers innumerable more.
My favorite poem–well, the ditty I’m getting agile to dole out after Metrical composition Friday–is…
Books near Eloise Greenfield
I’ve got
books on the bunk bed
books on the chair
books on the couch
And every old-time where
But I hunger for more books
lately can’t smack enough
have a yen for more books about
all kinds of creations, like
Jackie’s troubles, Raymond’s joys
Rabbits, kangaroos, girls and boys
Mountains, valleys, winter, spring
Camping-ground fires, vampires
Every fossil thing
I stand in want to
Be prostrate down on my bunk bed!
Slim slyly in
my chair
Curl up on the couch
And every old
where
And
read
more
books!
Roundup today is at Maniacal Rose Reader.
